Frequently Asked Questions

What’s this video reaction shot for the video darts that I’ve seen on social media ?

If you enter your cellphone when you enter your name (optional) the cameras will catch reaction video from the winning shot and text/email it to you.  It can be pretty fun to watch those back and share with friends to rub in a victory!  All you have to do is enter your cellphone and you’ll get the video.

Can I bring my own personal, real steel darts with me to play on YOUR video darts setup at The Hangar in Indianapolis ?

Yep!  We provide real, steel darts that you can use, but if you have your own you’re more than welcome to bring them!  We have a magnetizer that you’ll just need to put the tips in so it works with our board, but that’s no problem.  Real steel darts, but the ease of having automatic scoring and a video screen to guide you!

What if I have a big group for video darts and want to do more than one bay ?

We have 2 bays that can be booked, but we also have a ton of other things to do.  Team Outings are becoming super popular at The Hangar and we get people wanting to rent our entire gaming room to have private parties all the time.  With that you’d get both dart bays, all 3 of our gaming simulators, 2,500sq ft. of space and other fun bar games.  The gaming sims can be used for Trackman Golf (The best in the industry) or you can use our flight simulator or play 4-person giant Mario Kart!  To get this quoted just take 30 seconds and go here: https://hangarindy.com/venue-rental/

What if I only have 2 people for the video darts ?  I’m visiting Indianapolis and don’t have a big group!

2 people is great.  You can have up to 8 people per video darts bay, but it’s totally up to you.  Smaller groups will get more turns, but sometimes bigger groups can have more fun.  When you arrive we’ll walk you through setup, but it’s very user friendly.

Are these video darts at The Hangar similar to The Flight Club bar I’ve been to before ?

Yep, it’s slightly different software, but the concept is the same.  You’re making darts actually fun! ;)

Are video darts easier than regular darts?

Absolutely they are easier!  As far as throwing the darts goes, it’s the same thing. The scoring part is a breeze for video darts, though. For traditional or regular darts you have to do it all by yourself on a chalk board. It’d be like bowling and having to keep your own score.

Why are video darts better for group events?

Video darts aren’t intimidating because there is literally zero scoring understanding needed. You just do what the video display tells you and spend the rest of your time talking with friends. There are also really fun and interactive games beyond the traditional darts games where the video displays make it more fun. Think like golf games on a simulator vs. actual golf. For someone who doesn’t golf much or ever the simulators can be a lot of fun when you gameify the experience.

Steel Tipped Video Darts are starting to be more popular around the country and we are the only location that has them in Indianapolis so it can be a fun new thing to try as well!

Are video darts good for team building?

They are amazing! Some of the knockout games are hilarious to play against each other. Our video boards allow you to add pictures of yourselves or use emojis so that also makes it more fun. There’s also a video capture for the final shot so you can replay everyone’s facial expressions and moves when they winner is decided.

How many people can play video darts at once?

6 people at once is the maximum, but we have 2 steel tipped video dart bays at The Hangar so you can rent both and have up to 12 people playing darts at once

How long does a typical video darts game take?

You can play a game in as little as 10 minutes, but it really depends how many people you have and how good/bad your throws are. You get the board 1 hour at a time so there is plenty of time to get in many different games. And there are tons to choose from!

Are video darts good for beginners?

There’s never been an easier way to play darts! The scoring is automatic. The darts are real steel-tipped darts so they throw very easy because they have real weight to them. The video displays are engaging and make it a lot more fun as well.

What games can you play on video darts?

There are tons of different options. We always tell people to just toggle through and try them. The video board makes it super easy to follow the rules for each game because it’s constantly reminding you how they work.

Do video darts keep score automatically?

They sure do! It’s one of the best features of our setup and they are the only steel tipped video dart boards in indianapolis!  Without automatic scoring darts is just not a very popular game.  It’s why you always see dart boards going unused.  Our video dart boards are a ton of fun and make playing a breeze though!

What is “auto-scoring” in darts?

The only auto-scoring dart boards in Indianapolis are here at The Hangar. We have camera sensors and a couple video boards that explain fun step by step directions so all you need to do is read the prompt and throw the dart where it tells you. We’ve found we don’t even have to give instructions to most people when they arrive because the video boards are so intuitive.

Do video darts have different skill levels or handicaps?

They do and there are different games that range from easy to expert. When you start the games you can play around with skill level and trial until you find what works best for you.

Can you play tournaments on video darts?

Yes. Our video darts systems support organized tournaments.  The displays are located above the board and next to where you throw and they have very easy to understand instructions.

Are video darts good for corporate events?

Yes — they’re one of the best options.

  • Easy for beginners (no intimidation)
  • Built-in scoring (focus on chatting, eating and drinking, PLUS no disputes)
  • Fast-paced → keeps groups engaged
They work especially well for team-building because everyone can rotate in quickly.

What makes video darts a good bar activity?

  • Social but competitive
  • No waiting around for long durations like pool or bowling
  • Automatic scoring = no friction and super easy
  • Great for both small groups and crowds (2 to 12 people)
  • Are video darts good for parties or large groups?

Yes.  You can rent darts by the bay for $20/hr or you can rent out our entire gaming room

    • Dart Lane reservations (We have 2 lanes)
    • Full buyouts for large events (Gaming sim room comes with both dart bays, 3 gaming bays that can be used for mario kart, golf, flight simulator or more)
    • Private or semi-private areas (If you rent just the dart bay you may be sharing the area with people who are golfing nearby)

How much space do video darts setups require?

    Rough setup:

    • ~8 feet throwing distance
    • ~2–3 feet behind players
    • ~6 feet width per lane

Overall: compact compared to bowling or golf simulators, but plenty of room to lean on the bar and eat or drink between throws

How much does it cost to play video darts?

Starts at $20/hour.  Just click the book now button and toggle around to see pricing and availability

Do you need to book video darts in advance?

You don’t have to, but we recommend it.  Nothing worse than coming in and someone grabs a bay minutes before you walk in the door.  Don’t risk it and just book before you head over.  You can book times roughly 2 weeks in advance online at the book now button above

How long can you rent a video darts lane?

  • Standard: in 1 hour increments up to a full day
  • Events / Buyouts to get the full gaming sim room: it really depends on availability.  Fill out a venue rental form and we’ll get back to you within the day
  • Are there food and drink packages with video darts?

Yep!  If you have a large group and rent our simulator room out we’ve got all you can eat and drink packages.  Food starts at $20/person and unlimited beer/wine packages start at $15/person/hour.  For this option you’d want to fill out a venue rental request.

If you’re just coming in with 2 people and rented a dart bay we have a full kitchen and a full bar you’re welcome to order from.

Video darts vs steel tip darts: which is better?

Our video darts are better.  They are literally the same thing as steel tip darts PLUS automatic scoring.  Most other locations that have video darts use plastic darts and in that case it’s a personal preference thing.  At the Hangar though we have steel tipped video darts and there’s no question they are the best.

Compare Video darts vs arcade games for groups

    Video darts

    • Social + interactive because one person throws at a time while the rest watch and commentate.  Not to mention there’s time to be casual and eat/drink while playing, which is very hard to do with an arcade game
    • Everyone plays together
    • Competitions are the best way to have group fun.  What’s better than the spirit of competition with a large group ?

    Arcade games

    • Mostly solo play (Unless you’re talking about 4-player mario kart races, for example, which we offer!)
    • Less social because when you’re playing you’re heavily focusing on the screen
    • Short engagement

👉 Video darts = better group experience.

    Compare

Video darts vs bowling for team building

    Video darts

    • Faster turns
    • No shoes / setup
    • Smaller space
    • More interaction

    Bowling

    • Slower pace
    • More waiting
    • Larger commitment

👉 Video darts = higher engagement per minute.

compare Video darts vs Flight Club-style darts

    They’re very similar.

    Flight Club-style

    • They specialize in darts and really only darts
    • Themed décor for darts branding

    Standard video darts venues

    • More affordable
    • Darts is only one of many things we offer so you’ve got variety for people who aren’t hard core about darts and darts only
    • Same core technology for the sensors and gaming – it’s really just an ambiance thing

👉 The experience is nearly identical — just varies by venue vibe.

Where can you play video darts in Indianapolis?

    The Hangar in downtown Indianapolis

    Are video darts “real darts”?

    Yes. You still:

    • Throw real darts
    • Aim at a real board
    • Play real dart games

The only difference is automated scoring.

Do serious dart players like video darts?

    Many do — especially for:

    • Practice
    • Faster gameplay
    • Social environments

But traditional players may still prefer a board and a manual chalk board to score from for “old school” type reasons.  To us, it’s a no brainer to use automatic scoring.  When is the last time you saw someone bowl and demand they score the game themselves ?  lol

Is it hard to learn video darts?

No. It’s actually easier than traditional darts because:

    • Scoring is automatic with the camera sensors and video boards that we provide
    • Games guide you step-by-step

Most people pick it up in minutes.

Do video darts feel competitive or just casual?

    Both.

    • Casual players → fun/social
    • Competitive groups → intense games + leaderboards

What if I’ve never played darts before?

Perfect — video darts are designed for beginners.

    • Simple instructions on screen
    • Easy scoring
    • Low pressure

👉 It’s one of the easiest group activities to jump into.

What games can you play on video darts?

Video darts systems offer multiple games, including:

    • 501 / 301 (classic darts)
    • Cricket
    • Around the World
    • Team-based challenges

👉 The variety keeps groups engaged longer than traditional darts.

Are video darts safe compared to traditional darts?

Yes. Video darts are generally safer and more controlled because:

    • Lanes are clearly defined
    • Players stay behind a designated throw line
    • Structured gameplay reduces chaos (The video screens tell you exactly when it's your turn and it even has a picture of your face)

Is there a dress code for playing video darts?

No special dress code.  Key point is wear something that allows shoulder movement so you can throw easily, but that's pretty much everything.

Can you host a tournament for a private group?

Sure!  Just reach out in advance so we can make sure that whatever it is that you have in mind - we can accommodate.  Communication is key here!

Can you combine video darts with other activities?

Yes. At venues like The Hangar, you can combine:

    • Video darts
    • Golf simulators
    • Mario Kart on 15 foot screens
    • Flight Simulator
    • Office Olympics type games (ask us for the details on these, but they are a fan favorite)

👉 This creates a full event experience, not just one activity.
